bus and train services brindisi

As in many places in Puglia, public transport information is not always very accessible. This also applies to Brindisi, although there are many good options. There are excellent train connections anyway. There are also many options by bus, often better than you see in other places in Italy. Below is an overview of public transport in Brindisi city, Brindisi airport del Salento and Brindisi province.  Scroll down for all options: airport shuttle, trains and specific bus lines for your trips.

train connections brindisi

Railways in Italy are state-owned and also very available in Brindisi and the rest of Puglia. There is the national RFI (Rete Ferroviaria Italiana ) network, with local trains, intercities and high-speed trains. For the Salento, the southernmost part of Puglia below Brindsi, there is a separate company Ferrovie del Sudest. From Brindisi central station you can reach towns  in Brindisi province, the north of Puglia, but also Lecce and other places further south in Salento.  It is even possible to take highspeed trains to the rest of Italy, including Rome, Bologna  and Milan.  Below you find the several types of trains.

This is the separate train operator for villages north-west of Brindisi and in particular the Salento region south of Lecce, with different types of local trains, including diesel trains. Sometimes these trains are a bit slower, but you can reach places such as Martina Franca, Gallipoli and Otranto. Quite a lot tourists in Puglia do not know that these train connections exist.  To use it from Brindisi you first take an RFI train (see above) to Lecce or Francavilla Fontana. There you can transfer to the southernmost rail network.

Line 1: Bari-Martina Franca–Taranto and Bari-Casamassima-Putignano
Line 2: Martina Franca–Lecce
Line 3: Novoli-Gagliano del Capo

This company also operates a number of connecting bus routes in the same region, which can also reach specific villages such as Manduria, Alberobello and Locorontondo. Attention: in general you have to buy the bus tickets half an hour in advance, the bus driver often handles no payments.

bus lines for your trips

When it comes to public transport to take trips or go to the beach, it is important to know the difference between Urban lines, Extra-Urban lines and Seasonal lines.
STP operates all of these, with boarding points at Brindisi central station and other places in the city.

urban lines

Connections for reaching the city center of Brindisi and its surrounding residential areas. Some of these are also buses that continue to places outside Brindisi city, so there's an overlap with the Extra Urban lines.
